Areas of Legal Practice

Amato, Start & Associates > Areas of Legal Practice

Business Law – Business law deals with the creation of new businesses such as Incorporation or Limited Liability Companies and the issues that surface as existing businesses interact with the government, other companies and the public. This area of the law draws on a variation of different legal disciplines, including contract, construction, interpretation, litigation, sales, employment law, real estate, and others. We can assist clients in all of these areas.

Criminal & Civil Law – Our legal system is mainly comprised of two types of cases: civil and criminal. Criminal law broadly refers to federal and state laws that make certain behavior and actions illegal and punishable by imprisonment and/or fines. Criminal cases are charges pursued by prosecutors for violations of criminal statutes. Civil cases are disputes between people regarding the lawful duties and responsibilities they owe each other and the consequences of breaching those duties.

Family Law – Family law is a practice area pertaining to legal issues involving family relationships, matter and related matters.

Liquor License – You may obtain, sell or transfer a liquor license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Our firm handles all matters related to liquor licenses including acquisition, transfer, sale and violation hearings.

Municipal Law– Municipal law is the law exclusive to a particular borough, city, county or township (known legally as a “municipality”) and the government bodies within those classifications including Municipal Authorities and Administrative Boards. This can cover a wide range of topics, including everything from powers, duties, and rights of appointed officers and employees, corporate powers, taxation and finance, contracts, eminent domain, assessment of damages, damages for injury to property, police and fire services, land subdivision and zoning, streets, sanitary and storm sewers, public buildings and works, recreation, and property assessment and taxation. Our firm members have served, and currently serve, as Solicitors for more than a dozen municipalities, Municipal Authorities and Administrative Boards and, for some, for more than thirty five consecutive years.

School Law – School law includes primary, secondary and post-secondary education including but not limited to the application and interpretation of the Pennsylvania Public School Code and the Post-Secondary School Codes applicable to colleges and universities. Members of our firm have and currently serve as Solicitor to a school district and a local college for as many as thirty years.

Personal Injury Law (Plaintiff) – Personal injury cases are legal disputes that develop when one person suffers harm from an accident or injury and someone else may be legally responsible for that harm. Personal injury cases can result from an infinite amount of different accidents ranging from falling, automobile collisions, industrial and workplace injuries, products liability, road design issues and Wrongful Death and Survival actions. Attorneys in our law firm have amicably resolved and taken personal injury cases to verdicts in four counties in Western Pennsylvania. We mostly, but not exclusively, represent Plaintiffs in these actions and the value of those settlements and verdicts, collectively, are in the tens of millions of United States dollars.

Real Estate Law – The legal definition of real estate or real property is land and the buildings on it. Real estate law governs who may own and use the land. Our firm routinely handles all cases involving the acquisition, leasing, sales and uses of real estate.

Wills, Trusts and Estates – We regularly prepare Wills and Trusts as well as provide legal assistance in the administration of Estates.
